The Magical Magyars of 1953

Commissioned as cover for a book to be published by David Bailey, depicting the rise and fall of the ‘Mighty Magyars’, the Hungarian team that changed world football for ever.

The painting features Ferenc Puskas leading out Grosics, Lorant, Hidegkuti and the rest of the 1953 Hungary team at Wembley Stadium, before the first of two emphatic victories over Billy Wrights England.
