Sail For Gold 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta
I was first approached by The Royal Yachting Association in 1996 to paint a commemorative showpiece for their Sail For Gold Ball auction sale at The Park Lane Hilton, London.
The RYA’s Sail for Gold Ball has a rich heritage as one of the pinnacle events in the sailing industry’s social calendar. Since 1992, over 5,000 guests have been part of this special occasion rubbing shoulders with elite athletes, supporters and sailing royalty. The event is primarily a fundraiser to support the RYA Olympic and Paralympic squads in their ongoing quest for Gold medals.
And so I was honoured to be a part of the event and help to raise funds to support our Olympic & Paralympic Sailing Teams.
This first montage was for the 1996 Olympic Games held in Atlanta, USA. Competing in Savannah our team came home with several medals, one of which being the first for a young Ben Ainslie in the Laser class.
